An Amish mother and her daughters caramelize the sugar with creamy butter, fold in roasted peanuts, and stir each small batch by hand until it is ready to cool and crack into thick golden pieces. You get two 12 oz bags, a pound and a half of brittle in all, with a four-bag option for those who already know how fast the first bag disappears. It is the candy people remember from holidays and family gatherings, made the same unhurried way it always was.

This is classic hard brittle with a crisp, clean snap, cut thick and generous. If the real thing is what you are after, you are in good company. One customer wrote to tell us the brittle was "SO good, I consumed it all in one sitting" and that he "was expecting this bag to last the entire holiday season". He called it the first peanut brittle in half a century as good as his Mom's. This gourmet peanut brittle is cooked to taste like somebody's mother made it.

Two bags settle into a comfortable arrangement: one for the house, one to give away. Tuck a bag into a Christmas box or a college care package, set a plate out when company comes, or bring one along when you visit. Everything ships gift-ready with no prices in the box, and you can add a free gift note at checkout.

Like everything with our name on it, this brittle comes from an Old-Order Amish family in our community on the Iowa-Missouri border. Small batches mean it sells out now and then, and like the chocolates it rests through the warm months, so the notify-me form on this page will bring you word when more is ready. For allergy planning, the bag label reads: may contain and/or be produced in a kitchen that handles nuts, milk, wheat, and eggs.
